The Most Iconic Georgia Trip You Should Take This Summer Isn’t in the Car…It’s on This Scenic Riverboat Cruise
Soak up breathtaking views and historical charm as you cruise along the Savannah River on this one-of-a-kind adventure in Georgia.
I can give you 50 reasons why I absolutely love Savannah, Georgia. The historic city, lined with Victorian-style architecture, is brimming with so much charm and beauty. I especially adore the Spanish Moss-draped oak trees, waterfront attractions, Forsyth Park, cobblestoned squares, and I can’t forget the down-home comfort food. And while those are more than enough reasons for a road trip to Savannah this year, allow me to introduce you to another: the Savannah Riverboat Cruises. As one of the most iconic attractions in Georgia, you’ll want to experience it for yourself, especially if you’re here in the summer.
Welcome to the Savannah Riverboat Cruises. Since 1991, the agency has been sharing Savannah’s history and beauty with passengers as they drift along the Savannah River. With two classic paddle-wheel riverboats, the Savannah River Queen and the Georgia Queen, decked out in red, white, and blue, passengers can soak up incredible views along the waterway. Some of the sites include the Eugene Talmadge Memorial Bridge, the famous Waving Girl statue, and Old Fort Jackson.
Whether you’re a local or a visitor, you can create fond memories on this incredible excursion. Depending on your vibe, there are several cruises to choose from. They include the sunset, lunch, brunch, dinner, sightseeing, and gospel cruises. Each cruise varies, but some offer food and drink options. But there’s more. The seasonal cruises offer guests a unique way to spend holidays on board the historic riverboats. Between dinner, seasonal fireworks, and live music, you’re guaranteed to have an unforgettable experience.
What makes the cruises awesome is that the entire family can participate. Kids will love seeing the dolphins and the cargo ships on the river. Adults will enjoy the food, drinks, and live entertainment. Since both vessels have accessible capabilities, folks with mobility needs are also able to participate in cruising the river.
The tours are available year-round, but summers are typically less crowded due to the heat and humidity. The good news? The boats offer air-conditioned spaces providing relief from the warm weather. Passengers can also enjoy the cool breeze from the water if they prefer to ride on the outside decks. To completely avoid the summer heat, I would recommend the 7 p.m. sunset or dinner cruises. For folks seeking a romantic night, these tours are perfect for you, too. To be honest, I can’t think of a better way to spend an evening in Savannah than cruising along the scenic water with a glowing sunset in the backdrop. Sounds like a dreamy time to me.
The narrated cruises range from 90 minutes to two hours. However, you should carve out at least three hours for your excursion. Boarding begins an hour before the cruise time, and you’ll also want to make time to find parking. Plus, you’ll want extra time to snap pics with your family and friends to remember your trip.
Depending on the cruise, prices will vary, with the most expensive being the Dinner Entertainment Cruise. Discounts and group rates are also available. Regardless of the excursion you take, you’ll fall in love with the historical charm of Savannah, witness its architectural beauty, and learn about Georgia’s “First City.” You’re guaranteed to have a one-of-a-kind experience. By far, this is one of the most iconic attractions in Georgia, and you don’t want to miss it.
