A Peaceful Oasis In The Desert, Ojai Meadows Preserve Is A Must-Visit Spot For Anyone In Southern California

Ojai Meadows Preserve offers a serene natural environment with diverse wildlife, hiking trails, and vibrant plant life managed by the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy.

Ojai Meadows Preserve is a habitat restoration and flood control project by the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy (OVLC). The non-profit manages about 2,300 acres of open space, of which 2,000 acres are open to the public for free. The goal of OVLC is to protect and restore the natural lands, watersheds, wildlife habitats, and scenic views of Ojai. For a day of relaxation, head to this breathtaking oasis and enjoy the best of nature.

Ojai Meadows Preserve is located adjacent to the Nordhoff High School football stadium. It is a gorgeous wetland environment consisting of 27 miles of hiking trails, flowers, birds, wildlife, and native live oaks, sycamores, and cottonwoods.

The meadow boasts diverse, native flowers and plant life. Beyond the gate and just before the rolling hills, the field is peppered with a polychromatic explosion of colors — white, pink, red, yellow, blue, and purple, all of which contribute to the spectacular view.

You will find flowering plants and wildflowers such as California Blackberry, Holly-Leafed-Cherry, Bush Poppy, Tarweed, and Western Goldenrod.

The diverse ecosystem of Ojai Meadows Preserve includes species of wildlife that settled in the preserve when water returned to the wetlands. There is the Baja California Treefrog, Botta’s Pocket Gopher, Dragonflies, Damselflies, and Long-tailed Weasel.

It is common to spot all sorts of birds in the open spaces and on the shorelines of the Ventura River. The winged creatures to look out for include Mallard, California Quail, Great Blue Heron, Yellow-rumped Warbler, American Coot, and Cassin’s Kingbird.

Ojai Meadows Preserve has miles of separate hiking trails for your exploration. There is an easy loop around the protected wetlands, meadows, and Eucalyptus trees. It is ideal for spotting birds. If you are looking for a quiet stroll, this is the place to be.

You should join the locals, tourists, tens of thousands of school children, hikers, and equestrians that visit Ojai Meadows Preserve each year. The guided tours have helped many to understand the important work of the OVLC. Have you visited? Share your experience with us in the comment section below!
