Have you ever wondered what the early days in Southern California were like? At the Heritage Square History Museum, you can take a walk back into time and explore Victorian architecture, while also learning hands-on history about life in the 19th and 20th centuries. The tour will transport you back to a different time and give you a glimpse into the early days of Los Angeles.
The living history museum contains eight structures from the Victorian time period that the public can explore on an interactive tour.
Walking through the square and past the majestic buildings allows you to imagine what life was like in the first 100 years of California’s statehood.
The William Perry Mansion was built in 1876 by William Hayes Perry, a wealthy businessman and lumber merchant. It’s the second-largest building found at the museum.
Step inside the museum to see artifacts and learn about the lifestyles of California’s early pioneers.
The museum focuses on the years of expansive growth in Los Angeles between 1850-1950.
While Victorian houses were being demolished in the 1960s, these eight buildings were able to be saved and moved to Heritage Square in order to help preserve an important part of history.

The Heritage Square History Museum remains a favorite tourist attraction today. Not only can you explore the historical buildings, but they also host annual events such as Community Garden Days, Vintage Fashion Show and Tea, and more.
