There Are Abandoned Domes In Arizona That Were Never Completed And They’re Eerily Fascinating

There are a lot of spine-tingling abandoned places in Arizona, but the Domes of Casa Grande just might be the eeriest of them all. Built over 40 years ago to serve as a computer manufacturing site, these oddly-shaped buildings were never completed. Today, they sit in a state of disrepair, slowly succumbing to the harsh desert elements.

Editor's Note: As of January 2023, the Casa Grande Domes are no longer standing, having been torn down following a lengthy legal and safety advisory process. However, Casa Grande-area visitors should definitely check out this historic hotel to see a completely different side of AZ architecture.

About halfway between Phoenix and Tucson sits the mid-size city of Casa Grande, home to roughly 50,000 people.

The city is named after the Casa Grande Ruins National Monument, but it has become widely known for something much creepier: the Domes of Casa Grande.

Sitting abandoned in the middle of the wide-open landscape, the domes were built by a tech company over 40 years ago.

They were supposed to be computer manufacturing facilities, however, the company went bankrupt and left them to decay in the harsh desert elements.

One of the domes has collapsed entirely, and the others aren't far behind.

Their floors are beginning to buckle and beams of sunlight dance through gaping holes in the ceiling.

Like most abandoned buildings, the Domes of Casa Grande have seen their fair share of nefarious activity.

From squatters to teenagers wielding bottles of spray paint to alleged Satanic cults, these strange buildings are far from forgotten.

Even spookier, a series of underground tunnels run beneath the eastern end of the domes.

Nobody is sure of their intended purpose, and the mystery only amplifies the eeriness.

The domes were actually ordered for demolition in 2018, however, no further action has been taken since.

It's important to note, however, that even though the domes still remain standing, they are on private property.

Entering without permission is considered trespassing, and fines and/or arrests may result.
