Here are some really fun and inexpensive things to do in Alaska, rain, snow, sun, or otherwise. If you want something indoors there are plenty of museums and centers around the state offering interesting displays for cheap, or better... FREE! The same thing goes for outdoor activities, almost everything you could imagine doing in Alaska is or can be achieved at the appealing price of zero dollars.
1) Alaska Museum Of Science And Nature
A great place for the whole family! There are dinosaur fossils and really great exhibits to keep the kids entertained. Admission is $5 and First Fridays are free!
2) Eagle River Nature Center
Take a hike at the Eagle River Nature Center. The Crow Pass National Historic Trail is breathtaking!
3) Alaska Aviation Museum
Admission is around $10 dollars for adults, $8 for children 4-12, and 4 & under get in free! Make sure to see their Hall of Fame exhibit!
4) Climb a mountain!
Take the whole family on a hike any time of year at Flattop Mountain or Lazy mountain. It's free!
5) Iditarod Sled Dog Museum
The sign says it all, take a sled dog ride and enjoy the museum for under $10!
6) Potter Marsh Bird Sanctuary, outside of Anchorage
Get some great wildlife viewing and put some time in with that camera, all for free!
7) Go ice-skate!
Find a frozen lake or lagoon and strap on the skates. Bring some hockey sticks to start a friendly match! All for free, too.
8) Earthquake Park
Visit Earthquake Park and learn all about the damage the Good Friday Earthquake did to this Anchorage community. No payment necessary!
9) Seward Museum
Entrance to the museum is free and it offers plenty of exhibits for the whole family. Learn a lot about Alaskan culture without paying a dime!
10) Sledding!
Find a big hill and go sledding! Or, if you have no way to get out of the house, opt for your backyard and build a jib off the back deck. Invite your friends over and you're bound to have a good time.
