Cullman is a special city that not only offers something for everyone, but it also has a lot of history surrounding it. German history in fact! To learn all about Cullman and a few of the things you can see and do during your visit, take a look below.
Cullman is a charming city in North Alabama that was founded in 1873 by German refugee Colonel John G. Cullmann. It didn't take long before more Germans began moving here.
There are many things to see and do in this authentic 1870s German village. For example, if you love the outdoors, you'll definitely want to visit Sportsman Lake Park or...
...take a stroll across the historic Clarkson Covered Bridge, one of Alabama's oldest covered bridges (circa 1904).
For a unique experience, you might even want to visit Ave Maria Grotto, which happens to be a rock garden that features 125 miniature reproductions of famous religious structures on the grounds of St. Bernard Abbey.
No visit to Cullman is complete without antiquing. One of the city's best antique shops is Highway Pickers Antique Mall & Flea Market. They have something for everyone. In fact, they might even have something you didn't even know you were looking for.
When it comes to food, Cullman offers a variety of places to eat. One in particular is All Steak, which is known for serving some of the best steaks around.
Numerous people from all across the state have also been known to drive many miles just for the restaurant's famous Orange Rolls.
If you're in the mood for a glass of wine, All Steak offers that as well. In fact, the restaurant's wine is sold by the glass or bottle, and their wine menu is quite extensive.
One of the most popular events held in Alabama each year is the Cullman Oktoberfest, which celebrates the city's German heritage. This year's festival is scheduled to take place from September 29 to October 1 at the Festhalle Farmer's Market and Depot Park. It's going to be a fun event, so you'll certainly want to make plans to attend.
