Every True Delawarean Has Had These 9 Bizarre Experiences At Least Once
Some things about Delaware are just too weird for words, and we keep strange traditions and take pride in some interesting things! That’s part of the charm of the first state, though: all of the things we experience while enjoying our time in Delaware. So, without further adieu, see if you can relate to the following list of true Delawarean experiences.
Everyone in Delaware has, at least once:
1. Argued over whether it's a hoagie or a sub.
I'm going to keep my opinion to myself, because I think I'm in the minority. Either way, I'm sure this is going to spark some debate even in the comments.
2. Defended Delaware
If you're from Delaware, you probably make fun of it pretty often. Whether it's the fact that it's tiny, or rural, or that New Castle County thinks it's a whole 'nothing land (or because Slower Lower IS a whole 'nother land), it's easy to pick on the first state. So it might surprise you when some out-of-stater takes a stab at the First State and you find yourself jumping up to say "Hey, it's not that bad!"
3. Been stuck in traffic for a ridiclous reason.
Was it earlier this year, when thousands of pennies spilled all over the road? Or was it the chickens, just a few months ago? What about when millions of bees shut down the highway? Or when you had to drive slowly through Odessa to avoid running over that loose Emu?
Regardless of the reason, every Delawarean has been stuck in traffic and had a hard time explaining it.
4. Struggled to calculate sales tax in every other state.
Except Oregon! Thanks, Oregon, we can always count on you.
5. Driven really far for french fries...
Thrashers fries are SO worth fighting beach traffic.
6. ... or a sausage sandwich...
Helen's Sausage House is famous for a reason - it's worth driving to no matter where you hail from.
7. ... or some ice cream.
Delaware has some of the BEST creameries in the state, so sometimes you've got to try a little harder than picking up a pink of Haagen-Daaz at Royal Farms.
8. Tried to explain Scrapple - and then gave up.
"Everything but the oink, okay?!"
9. Loved and Hated UD at the same time.
On one hand, it's so much quieter in Newark during the summer, and I don't really have to worry about accidentally running over a jaywalker. On the other hand, it's SO easy to get behind the incredible UD Hockey teams!
