Maryland has the reputation for being the crabbiest state in the Union, but Delaware is a close second! Our blue crabs are delicious, meaty, and just as good as the ones pulled from the Chesapeake. If you doubt that, head to Kathy’s Crab House in Delaware City and let your tastebuds decide.
When this tiny crab shack opened in Delaware City in 1982, it was immediately a hit thanks to the giant, fresh crabs they served.
The decor here is pretty simple - don't expect to be blown away with white tablecloths and fancy uplighting. It's perfect, because there's nothing to distract you from the food you're about to feast on.
Of course, crabs are the main attraction here. These Blue Crabs are picked from local bays and brought in fresh, before being seasoned and steamed by the experts here.
The steamed combo is the most popular platter on the menu. With six blue crabs, two ears of corn, a dozen clams, half a pound of shrimp and a basket of fries, it's sure to feed your table!
Steamed shrimp may seem like an afterthought at a crab shack, but they really put their heart into each dish they make. You'll want to feast on shrimp after shrimp.
Whether you're looking for fresh fish, crabs, clams, shrimp, or even a burger, the food at Kathy's Crab House is what has kept families coming back for generations.
You can find this Delaware crab shack at 107 5th St., Delaware City, DE 19706. They serve up crabs seasonally, and right now the restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Be sure to come with an empty belly, because you’ll want to feast here!
