If There’s One Exhibit You Need To See In DC This Summer, Make It This
DC is known for, well, many things, but mostly museums. We have so many to choose from and there is always a fantastic rotating display of exhibits that Washingtonians and tourists stand in long lines to see. But there is one completely exhibit coming to DC this summer that you actually must see!
Let’s start off by saying that the National Building Museum just might be the most underrated museum in all of DC. Most people just don’t know about it but they really should. Because first of all, it’s gorgeous…
But they are also are known for doing some of the most interesting installations and exhibits in the district. Like when they had a massive labyrinth a few years ago.
Or two summers ago when they created a beach right in the middle of the museum using 650,000 plastic balls.
But this year, they are taking it up a notch and throwing the coolest summer block party ever inside of their biggest exhibit.
The museum worked with architecture group Studio Gang to create the Hive, a massive installation made of 2,700 wound paper tubes.
The Hive reaches 60 feet tall and consists of three interconnect domed chambers where visitors can enter and explore.
Each structure has a unique acoustic style and there are different instruments in each chamber where visitors can explore how the structures modify sound, light and human interaction.
Not all only is the Hive one of the coolest and most intriguing things to see this summer in DC but the museum has an entire event scheduled planned!
They are hosting a backyard barbecue on the West Lawn serving up the always delicious Hill Country Barbecue.
The Backyard BBQ takes places from 4-9pm on Thursday and Fridays and 11am-9pm on Saturdays and Sundays and you can enjoy food, beverages and live music.
They will also have local performances and free concerts.
They even had a yoga class there last week!
It’s a summer celebration you do not want to miss! You can get tickets for Hive online on the National Building Museum’s
website. The Hive and the Summer Block party will run until September 4th.
The Hive, of course, isn’t the only amazing exhibit in DC!
