Washington DC is a beautiful city, from the ground and from high above. DC is interesting because of the Height of Buildings Act in 1910, which is limits how tall buildings can be. But just because we don’t have many tall buildings, doesn’t mean we don’t have beautiful scenic overlooks where you can get great views of DC and beyond! 1. Iwo Jima Memorial
The Iwo Jima Memorial is located across the river in Arlington. Not only is the memorial itself absolutely stunning, it offers views of the Potomac, the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument and the Capitol Building from afar.
2. Air Force Memorial
The Air Force Memorial is another memorial located in Arlington. It’s slightly elevated so you can look right across the Potomac for a beautiful panoramic view of Washington DC.
3. Lady Bird Johnson Park
Lady Bird Johnson Park is gorgeous park on a small piece of land off the Potomac River. It is home to Lyndon B. Johnson Memorial grove and offers visitors a great view of DC in the distance.
4. George Washington’s Mount Vernon
Everyone should visit George Washington’s Mount Vernon just to enjoy the fantastic beauty of the estate but you should also be sure to head out back and check out the views of rolling hills and the Potomac River.
5. George Washington Parkway
Everyone’s favorite parkway, the GW Parkwa has great views of Georgetown and DC at several parts along the drive.
6. Arlington House
High on a hill next to the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington House gives visitors a direct view of the Mall and Washington DC.
7. Old Post Office Tower
The Old Post Office Tower gives the highest attainable views of DC. It recently reopened and is the best place to get an overlook of DC.
8. Top of the Gate
The Watergate recently reopened their rooftop bar, Top of the Gate. Enjoy a delicious cocktail while looking out at sweeping views of DC and Arlington.
