Connecticut was once home to over forty fire lookout towers, though less than ten remain standing today. The most famous of the survivors is the Mount Tom Tower, which has stood for nearly one hundred years. While forest fires aren’t nearly as common here as in other states, having a maintained fire tower was one of the requirements when the land for Mount Tom State Park was gifted to the state. Originally made of wood, this particular tower was only a backup, but was later rebuilt in stone and upgraded to include a telephone line. Check it out!
