Fairy tales are all about magic, charm, and a sense of adventure. There's only one Connecticut town that embodies those ideals and also has the appearance of a different time, and that's Killingly. With its lush natural surroundings, colonial-style architecture and bustling community, you'll feel like you're in the village from Beauty and the Beast. Don't believe me? See for yourself!
Killingly, and its borough of Danielson, are part of the last green valley.
Congress dubbed this region a "unique natural resource" because of its expansive acres and networks of rolling hills, rivers, and waterfalls. But there's something special about this town in particular. It makes you feel like you've traveled back in time to an era of simplicity.
It shines in every season, especially the autumn, but this picture perfect town isn't just about looks. There are also plenty of activities, making it the perfect place for a day trip. Bring the whole family, or keep the magic for yourself. We won't tell!
The borough of Danielson makes up the downtown, where you'll find extremely unique storefronts like this one, resembling a train's boxcar. There's plenty of eclectic shopping to go along with the free parking and the area can easily be explored on foot.
You'll definitely want to be in town when the farmer's market rolls through. The seasonal event offers some of the most delicious farm fresh food around along with some freshly baked sweet treats.
Plus there's Davis Park, host to a number of family friendly events throughout the year, including the Great Tomato Festival. This quaint town lets you escape the hustle and bustle and get back to the little things.
Believe it or not, the fun doesn't stop there! From bike shows to skydiving and even tropical green houses, this town really is a fairy tale. Full of wonder, excitement, and plenty to do, you'll definitely want to add Killingly (and the borough of Danielson) to your bucket list.
But it's not the only town in Connecticut worth exploring. There's the criminally overlooked town of Putnam and the waterfront adventure town known as Mystic too!
