If you love exploring the past, there is no better place than the museum and library at the Connecticut Historical Society. You'll explore the past from the 1500s forward and you won't break the bank either. Admission is just $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $8 for students and children (age 5 and under enter free). No history buff can resist this place and neither can we. Check it out:
The Connecticut Historical Society is a far cry from the small homestead museums you see in the state's towns. Founded in 1825, this large stone estate is one of the oldest historical societies in the country.
It's also home to the nation's largest collection of tavern signs. Being a place of many taverns itself, this is a cool piece of Connecticut and American history that you can only see here.
But that's not all! As you explore the halls of this castle-esque museum and library you will also find recreations of colonial life, interactive displays, and hands on activities. This includes working a World War II assembly line!
Come peruse the halls of this time machine and experience the past up close. It was an era of sending lengthy handwritten letters. The state was dominated by agriculture and state law demanded that every town have a tavern of its own.
What few remnants remain are here at the Connecticut Historical Society. You won't want to miss these exhibits!
Connecticut Historical Society is located at 1 Elizabeth Street, Hartford, CT 06105.
This place is awesome, but some museums in Connecticut will have you scratching your head. You'll find the weirdest museums in Connecticut right here.
