Rainy days can make you feel like you are trapped at home, but it doesn't have to be that way. There are plenty of indoor activities to do all around Connecticut. One of our favorites is a truly magical place that brings out the kid in everyone. Grab your umbrella on the next day of wet weather and head straight to the New England Carousel Museum for an afternoon you won't forget.
The New England Carousel Museum is located in Bristol. It houses an extensive collection of carousel art and memorabilia including the breathtakingly beautiful horses.
Enter the main gallery and you won't know where to look first. The bright colors and lights draw you in like a moth to a flame.
You'll find dazzling carousel horses. Take delight in their intricate carvings and meticulously applied paint.
View the older animals that show their wear proudly. The history captured in this exhibit is unbelievable.
The very first item ever placed in the museum is an original Lake Compounce Carousel Horse.
There are more than 100 pieces to be admired at this whimsical carousel museum.
Enjoy the miniature carousels that are on display. Each one captures the spirit of the amusement ride in a unique way.
Find circus posters and carousel art too. The museum staff is extremely knowledgeable and can tell you the history of any item you see.
Take a spin on the carousel to bring out your inner child, your admission ticket includes a free ride. Admission to the museum is $6 for adults, $5.50 for seniors, $3.50 children ages 4-14, and $2.00 children ages 1-3.
Visit the museum Wednesday - Saturday 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Sunday 12 p.m. - 5 p.m. On Mondays and Tuesdays the museum is closed to the public but still available for group tours and facility rentals.
