Denver's Retrograde cocktail bar doesn't look like a cocktail bar from the outside. That's because it's an ice cream shop. Frozen Matter is a great ice cream shop, too, and you should get some ice cream there sometime.
However, if you feel more like cocktails than ice cream... you should go to Retrograde. How do you get there? Well, all you have to do is walk past the ice cream shop and go to the freezer door you see here. Turn on the light switch... wait... and a bartender will meet you to check your ID and let you inside!
This cocktail bar is small but special. It's pretty neat that it's hidden like it is, but that's not where the fun ends. The creative cocktails served here are spectacular!
If you do visit Retrograde, there's a one drink minimum for all guests - that way people don't take up seats that paying customers could be using. Don't drink alcohol? The bartenders will make you a creative non-alcoholic beverage instead.

The Riki-Oh is a coconut, curry cocktail with shiitake-mirepoix infused gin, wild turkey rye, overproof rum, coconut, ginger, demerara, curry tincture and lime zest. Wowzers!
