I would argue that the entire state of Colorado is something out of a fairy tale. From the rolling plains to the glistening lights of the city all the way to the tip top of the colorful Rocky Mountains, there is no shortage of enchanting places to go around. If we had to name a place that immediately pops out at us, however, it would have to be this Western Slope town and its purely magical caves:
Home to nearly 10,000 residents, the City of Rifle is a small and charming Colorado town with the apt motto of "Embracing our past, shaking hands with our future."
Named for the surrounding Rifle Creek, Rifle was incorporated in 1904 and has served as the regional center for Colorado's thriving cattle ranching industry.
While we love the rich history of Rifle, its friendly residents, and gorgeous surroundings, our favorite part of the town may just be...
...this.
Located within Rifle Mountain Park lies these incredible Ice Caves, which begin to form in December and continue to change due to a freeze-and-thaw process.
Made up of 4 different caves (the Stone Tree, Ice Palace, Soul On Ice, and The Final Curtain), we can't help but think of a cool and colorful fairy tale like "Frozen" whenever we see pictures of this spectacular area!
(Cue "Let it Go.")
