Almost Nobody Knows That Parts Of The Iconic Movie Indiana Jones Were Filmed In This Tiny Colorado Town
What would you say if I asked which Indiana Jones movie was the best? Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, correct? Starring Harrison Ford, Sean Connery, and River Phoenix, this 3rd installment of the franchise follows Indy as he rescues his father, and the two of them search for the Holy Grail. Aside from the plot, one of my favorite aspects of the movie is that parts were filmed in this tiny Colorado town you will want to visit!
Welcome to Antonito: A small south-central Colorado town of 700 that just so happens to house Indiana Jones' childhood home!
While just seeing the home from the outside is cool, you can actually stay the night at the Indiana Jones Bed and Breakfast, which offers comfortable rooms, a home-cooked breakfast, and tons of movie memorabilia.
In addition to filming inside and outside the house, a nearby Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad train was the location of the movie's opening scene, where a young Indy battles grave robbers for the coveted Cross of Coronado.
While the set locations are reason enough to visit, there is much more to see and do around this former sheep mining camp, beginning with rides aboard the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad, seeing the quirky Cano's Castle, and checking out the local art scene.
Though there is plenty to do around town, Antonito also boasts a close proximity to such iconic attractions as the Great Sand Dunes, Colorado Gators Farm and Reptile Park, and other various refuges and outdoor recreation opportunities.
