Not every hike has to be a 10+ mile backpacking excursion to be memorable. The short and sweet Slunger Creek Nature Trail is a mini adventure! Families will especially love this breezy trail filled with endless sights and sounds of nature. Let's relax and take a stroll at this underrated trail in Lake Catherine State Park.
Lake Catherine State Park has always been an Arkansas favorite but the waterfall here isn't the only destination.
One of the quiet, rather underrated little hikes here is Slunger Creek Nature Trail. This little loop may not be the main reason for coming to this state park but it sure is a lovely addition to your day of activities.
This breezy trail is under a mile and ADA accessible.
Strollers, wheelchairs, families, and leashed pets are all welcomed along the trail!
The trail is named for the nearby tributary, Slunger Creek.
A large portion of the trail follows alongside the creek. The sounds of the trickling stream paired with the nearby birds create such a relaxing atmosphere.
The experience here is more than just the journey.
Reaching one big feature is not the point of this little trail. Take your time to meander slowly and take in all the charms of the forest. There are benches along the path too for additional chances to reflect.
Since this trail is less populated than Falls Branch, you'll have more chances to spot wildlife.
Birds, turtles, and even deer aren't unusual to observe while hiking here. Quietly capture them all with your camera!
Slunger Creek Nature Trail is a short and sweet trail your family will enjoy.
As always be sure to Leave No Trace. For more information and a map of this trail head to the state park website right here.
