Feel like the only person in the world along this peaceful trail in the Arkansas wilderness. This portion of the Ozark Highlands Trail is remote but absolutely worth the effort. Let’s venture deep into the Ozark National Forest and take this gorgeous middle-of-nowhere hike.
The entire trail is well over 200 miles so you can either backpack portions or pick and choose different spurs. Today's feature is the spring-to-spring hike from Spring Creek Road to Moccasin Springs. The trail is north of Big Flat in the national forest.
This entire area is filled with lovely winding roads through the forest including this scenic drive around the mountain. The trail is an all-day affair at 8.8 miles and is fairly rated as moderate.

The majority of hike is dry but there are a few mountain streams to cross along the way. The more scenic waters are closer to Moccasin Springs.
The ongoing bluffs are not-so-subtle reminders that the trail is in the middle of Arkansas wilderness. This is in the Sylamore portion of the national forest which is known for its rugged beauty.
This may not be the most popular spur along the Ozark Highlands Trail but we do love the challenge in exchange for its peaceful solitude. We always recommend further researching trails before you take that first step. You can view more information about the trail right here or download the map.
