I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
Where do you call home? For those who have grown up in or have lived in the Grand Canyon State, there are many things we’ve become so accustomed to and are normal parts of daily life. While seeing a cactus is a daily thing for most of us, visitors are often intrigued by them. If you have strong roots in Arizona, there are plenty of signs that point to that. We have a lot of pride for this great state of ours and Wear Your Roots can help you show off that pride.
1. You've been to the Grand Canyon more than once.
We all need some way to escape the heat, right? Besides, the pool can remain open almost year-round. If you don't have a pool at your house, you know someone who does.

4. You've burnt yourself on some part of your car during the summer.
Whether you're climbing in, you touch the steering wheel, or you're buckling up, there are several spots you can burn yourself in the car if you're not careful in the summer. Seat covers and driving gloves are a necessity this time of year!
Known as haboobs, a dust storm is a common sight especially during monsoon season here in Arizona. Seeing one from afar is one thing...getting caught in one is somewhat scary (and yes, I'm speaking from experience).
Spring training is an exciting time here in Arizona for those who love baseball. Stadiums across the Valley host Cactus League training games in February and March.
Winter is fleeting in the southern part of Arizona. So, unless you head to Snowbowl or live in a colder part of the state, you probably don't own a winter coat, or all that much cold-weather clothing, for that matter.

9. Seeing javelinas running around the neighborhood is normal.
With endless days, weeks, and even months of unrelenting sunshine, rain is certainly welcome. Add in thunder and lightening and it can also be quite exciting!
We have the best sunsets in the country, hands down! No matter how many years I've lived here, I still can't get over how gorgeous an Arizona sunset is.
