I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
If you live in or have ever visited Arizona, you know it’s a sunny state. In fact, it’s home to three of the top 10 sunniest cities in the world. This makes me wonder why Florida, not Arizona, is known as the “Sunshine State!” But I digress. Among the top sunniest cities in the world are Phoenix, Tucson, and Yuma, with Yuma as the number one sunniest city on the planet.
Considered the "Sunniest City on Earth," Yuma experiences an average of 4,055 hours of sunshine annually. It seems as though rain clouds never appear over this city! Seeing an average of only 3 inches of rain per year, Yuma is quite dry but at least it's not humid. If you want to experience the unrelenting sunshine in Yuma for yourself, take a weekend getaway and book your stay at one of the many available vacation rentals on Vrbo.
Phoenix is another top 10 sunniest city in the world. While we do get rain sporadically throughout the year, especially during monsoon season, Phoenix gets around 3,900 hours of sunshine annually. Outdoor living is a big deal here and there are plenty of hiking, golfing, and other outdoor recreational opportunities. Additionally, many restaurants offer patio seating throughout the year. We love to take advantage of the sunshine in this city! If you're planning a visit to Phoenix, consider booking a luxurious stay at The Phoenician.
The last on our list of sunniest cities in the world that happen to be in Arizona is Tucson. Here the sun shines an average of around 3,800 hours annually. Want a getaway in this Southern Arizona city? Spend a few nights at a charming ranch guest house.
With all this sun we get here in Arizona, you know what that means, right? Some pretty epic sunsets!
