Drive-In Movie Theaters Are Starting To Pop Up All Over Arizona
Who knew something so retro as drive-in theaters would make such a huge comeback in 2020? They’ve been popping up all over Arizona lately, raising the spirits of families, friends, and couples alike and providing a safe activity out of the house.
A pop-up drive-in traveling to various Phoenix-area properties, Moonlight Movie Nights is showing classic films and offering window-side service from several local restaurants. If your restaurant receipt totals at least $20, your movie ticket will be reimbursed! More information here.
One of Arizona's most popular pick-your-own farms has transformed into a drive-in movie theater. Schnepf Farms is screening films on Wednesday-Sunday nights, with showtimes varying between 7:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Due to its licensing agreement, the farm cannot disclose the name of the movie until a ticket purchase has been made. Refunds aren't an option, either, but you can swap tickets in a Facebook group. Here's a general idea of the schedule:
Wednesday: Date movies (action, suspense, adventure, romantic comedy)
Thursday: Family movies
Friday: Date movies (action, suspense, adventure, romantic comedy)
Saturday: Family movies
Sundays: Classic movies
On Friday and Saturday nights through May 30, the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess is showing family-friendly movies at 8 p.m. Upcoming films include Frozen, Shrek, Toy Story 4, A Dog's Journey, Secret Life of Pets 2, Coco, and The Incredibles. Concession packs with two bottles of water, a bag of popcorn, and two boxes of candy are available. Cars must be parked 10 feet apart to comply with social distancing guidelines. The brainchild of several area entrepreneurs, Digital Drive In AZ is raising spirits after the cancellation or postponement of countless festivals. This pop-up theater operates seven nights a week, mostly showing films that have been out for some time. Their 24' x 40' inch screen is a first in Arizona! More information here.
5. West Wind Drive-In And Public Market (Glendale)
West Wind is the last-remaining permanent drive-in theatre in Arizona, and it has remained open throughout the pandemic -- albeit with restrictions. Patrons must remain inside their vehicles (or truck bed) and restroom capacity is limited. Gates open at 7 p.m. sharp, so don't be late! First-run movies are shown here, so you'll definitely want to snag a good spot. More information here.
