It's rare for a restaurant to stand the test of time, which is precisely what makes Pete's Fish & Chips in Arizona so special. Since 1947, this family-owned, cash-only joint has been dishing out some of the best fried fish in the Valley, with friendly service and unbeatable prices. Whether you've frequented Pete's since childhood or it's your first time, the experience is always a memorable one.
There's always a line out the door at Pete's Fish & Chips, a local chain with eight locations in the Valley.
Family-owned and operated since 1947, this humble, cash-only joint got its start in Mesa. The restaurant's origin story is inspiring: Peter McLane Grant Jr. became ill while performing his duties as a PT Boat Skipper in WWII, so his doctors advised him to move to a hot and dry climate to recover.
Grant had always dreamed of owning a fish and chips restaurant after seeing them on practically every corner in Europe - and thus, Pete's was born. The drive-thru outpost has remained true to its values of quality and prompt service over the years - although we wish the fish and chips were still 35 cents!
The menu is simple, with fish and chips being the most popular item. Baskets come with up to five pieces, plus Pete's special sauce for dipping.
If you prefer your fish between buns, sandwiches are also available. You have several options: plain or with cheese, sauce, and/or slaw. It's love at first bite! Other seafood items include shrimp, crab bites, and scallops.
Pete's has expanded their menu quite a bit since the 1940s. Now, it also features chicken tenders and nuggets, corn dogs, deep-fried burritos, and combo meals.
Almost as famous as the fish and chips are the "Monster Burgers," served with special sauce, onions, and pickles. Make it a double or triple if you're extra hungry!
