This Trail Leading To 4 Different Red Rock Formations Is Often Called One Of The Best Kept Secrets In Arizona
It’s no secret that Arizona’s Red Rock Country is a popular hiking destination, but some of the area’s best trails don’t get nearly enough recognition. Broken Arrow Trail is one of the most underrated hikes in Sedona, leading to four different iconic rock formations.
Broken Arrow Trail is a favorite among off-roading enthusiasts, but there's actually a separate route just for hiking!
The out-and-back trail is just under three miles long and features an elevation gain of exactly 400 feet, earning it a "moderate" rating on AllTrails.
Hikers will enjoy ample shade along the way, thanks to the lush greenery of the Coconino National Forest (although you'll still want to bring plenty of water).
As you can see, the entire trail boasts incredible views of the surrounding red rock landscape. The photo-worthy moments aren't limited to designated scenic overlooks!
Some of the most iconic natural landmarks include Chicken Point, Mushroom Rock, and Devil's Dining Room Sinkhole.
Evergreen forest contrasted against rugged canyonlands makes for a scene that begs for you to stay awhile. Bring a sack lunch, refuel, and admire the sweeping panoramic vistas before journeying back to the trailhead.
You'll also have a lovely view of the iconic Chapel of the Holy Cross, one of the most iconic buildings in Sedona.
No matter your religious or spiritual beliefs, the church sure is a feat of architecture. It looks especially beautiful nestled amid the majestic red rocks.
If you happen to visit after decent rain has fallen, prepare for a breathtaking sight.
It's well-marked, easy to follow, and save for one steep downhill stretch, not too difficult to traverse.
The parking lot for the trail is located off Morgan Road. You will need a Red Rock Pass, which you can learn more about here. For more information about the hike, visit its page on AllTrails.
