If you’re looking for year-round lake camping in Alaska, it can be hard to find. With snowy winters and inaccessible areas during some of the coldest months, a year-round place to camp feels like a dream. But Eklutna Lake has year-round camping opportunities when you book one of their public service cabins! Whether you’re roughing it in a tent, or glamping it in one of these cool cabins, you’re guaranteed to have a great Alaskan experience by this incredible lake.
There’s a hidden lake in the heart of the Chugach State Park.
Eklutna Lake is a glacier-fed lake that’s a stunning turquoise blue. The lake is seven miles long, and one mile wide, perfect for kayaking and exploring.
There’s an expansive campground at the park that has 50 campsites.
There’s also an additional campground with 15 more sites, and you’ll find picnic tables, latrines, and fire pits. Rates start at $20.00 per night, and the campground is open for the spring, summer, and fall seasons.
There are also five public-use cabins that you can rent all year long.
The Dolly Varden Cabin, Serenity Falls Public Use Hut, Yuditna Cabin, Rainbow Trout Cabin, and the Kokanee Cabin. These cabins are all a fabulous way to experience Eklutna Lake.
Three of the cabins can sleep eight guests, one can sleep twelve, and another can sleep thirteen.
All of the cabins are rented in their entirety for the night, except for the Serenity Hut. This larger cabin has many rooms with bunks, and each can be rented separately.
Many of the cabins are right near the lake.
You can reach the cabin by the trails or by traveling on the lake. In the spring, summer, and fall, bike, hike, or kayak your way out to many of these cabins. In the winter, you can snowshoe or cross country ski.
The cabins are a great way to experience the lake all year round.
Rates start at $100.00 per night. A couple of the cabins are newer construction, and all are maintained well by the Alaska State Parks.
This stunning spot is the place to go anytime of the year.
Pack your bags, get your gear, and head on out for an Alaskan adventure. It’s one you won’t soon forget!
