Alaska is known for its incredible local roasters, and Uncle Leroy's Coffee is no exception. Based out of Anchorage, Alaska, this cool coffee company got their start on an antique school bus before their incredible popularity encouraged them to also open storefronts. You can try one of their coffees at any of their awesome locations, or on their bus in Talkeetna all summer long!
Uncle Leroy's Coffee is named after the legend of a miner in Hope who would hand roast coffee beans over his campfire each morning.
The coffee was so delightful, prospectors would make their way to him on horseback at sunrise each morning. The same stovetop method was employed on Uncle Leroy's Coffee mobile coffee bar, with a stovetop pan sitting atop a rustic stove.
When you entered the bus, you walked to the back, enjoying the smells of freshly roasted beans and the sight of a beautiful pour-over cup of coffee.
The small batches allowed for a truly unique cup of coffee by the unevenness of the roast. Now they roast small two pound batches in the coffee house; still small batches, but large enough to account for the increase in business.
Their mobile coffee shop was so wildly popular, they decided to open a coffee house as well.
The coffee shop has a vintage vibe, just like the bus. You can find wooden furniture, graffiti artwork on the walls, and plenty of flavorful coffee.
You can order and enjoy lattes, pour overs, and more.
The coffee house is a great place to bring some work and relax. You can find comfortable furniture with a retro feel to luxuriate in while you enjoy your coffee.
All day Sunday, from 9:00 a.m. through 4:00 p.m., they even offer brunch.
Try one of the amazing crepes on offer from A Crepe Crew. These luscious crepes are made locally and using Alaskan ingredients whenever possible!
Even with the storefronts, you can spot this mobile coffee bar all around Alaska during the summer.
A frequent at farmer's markets, outdoor events, and K Street Eats, it's a fun experience to hop on the bus and watch a barista make you a unique pour over. They even throw out a couple of chairs for you to rest in while you enjoy your tasty coffee.
The Midtown location has been so successful, they just recently opened an Eastside location as well!
You can find that storefront on 6307 DeBarr Road, Anchorage, Alaska, 99504. The Eastside hours are seven days a week, from 6:00 a.m. through 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on the weekends. The Midtown location is also open seven days a week, from 7:00 a.m. through 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9:00 a.m. through 4:00 p.m. on the weekends.
