The Skwentna Roadhouse is located 65 miles northwest of Anchorage, Alaska.
Its location is only accessible by snow machine, fat tire bike, boat or aircraft. This spot can offer many stunning perks, including gorgeous aurora borealis viewing in the winter.
It's very close to the Alaska Range, and you have some stunning views on the remote property.
It's also close to two major rivers, the Yentna and the Skwentna. In the winter the lodge offers ice fishing and guided snow machine tours through the surrounding country side.
After a start as a bunkhouse for school children in the 1980's, the lodge has gone through a makeover into the adventure spot you see now.
There are cozy rooms, wonderful common areas, and a huge lounge. The lounge was recently built and can accommodate up to 40 people, and boasts a full bar.
This is a great spot to visit in March if you are interested in the Iditarod, as it is also a checkpoint for this awesome sled dog race.
You are also guaranteed hot, home cooked meals, which is perfect after spending a day out in the chilly weather. You can watch the action of the race before ducking inside for a quick warm up!
This lodge is also a checkpoint for The Iditarod Trail Invitational.
The Iditarod Trail Invitation is an intense walking, biking, and skiing race from Willow all the way to McGrath. A handful of competitors even make the trek to Nome. You are guaranteed to meet some amazing athletes while staying at this place!
The Iron Dog also stops by at the Skwentna Roadhouse, as they host the checkpoint for this race too!
This remote lodge is truly the epicenter of Alaskan winter wilderness fun. This place offers so many wilderness activities including cross country skiing, snow machining, ice fishing, and more. You can even rent out the lodge for large events, like weddings!
With their own personal runway, you can land right in front of the roadhouse almost every day of the year.
