Wow your whole family with the gorgeous views of Horseshoe Lake and the mountains beyond!
If you're visiting Denali National Park and you're looking for an easy, accessible trail for the whole family, Horseshoe Lake Trail is an easy winner!
This gentle loop skirts by the stunning Horseshoe Lake, with plenty of mountain views in the distance. It's a quick walk if you need a beautiful activity to fill your afternoon!
The hike is a nice 2.1 mile loop through a forested area.
There's 393 feet of elevation gain, and most of it is at the end of the trail. It's up a series of steps, which makes it much easier to navigate! There is a short little hill at the beginning of the trail that provides a lovely little overlook of the lake and your destination.
The trails are very well maintained, with a wide walking path.
It's an easy trail, with benches to rest at and beautiful views around every corner. It's fairly quickly too, many people completing the hike in just over an hour!
There's a very good chance you will run into wildlife on the trail!
Most animals are perfectly fine if given a wide berth. Feel free to take photos but don't move in too close! The last thing you want to do is get between a mama moose and her calves!
There are beautiful spots along the trail, including bridges made of logs.
Look for large clumps of logs and branches in the water, as this is a favorite area for beaver dams. Most hikers end up seeing beavers swimming along in the lake!
The trial is also dotted with gorgeous Alaskan wildflowers.
Keep your eyes peeled for the stunning purple lupine, or pink fireweed. It makes for a beautiful walk through this area!
The entrance to this awesome trail is within Denali National Park, the largest designated wilderness area in Alaska.
You can find the trailhead at this Address: Mile 1, Denali Park Road, Denali National Park and Preserve, AK 99755.
