You’ll Want To Spend Time At The Most Enchanting Alaskan Roadhouse Ever
Alaska has a wonderful and rich history, and the old enchanting Alaskan roadhouses dotting the landscape throughout the state are a part of that. One wonderful roadhouse ended up building a larger, newer building above the existing one. Now The Lodge At Black Rapids is a modern, beautiful retreat in the heart of Alaska!
The Lodge at Black Rapids is a beautiful, all season lodge located on the Richardson Highway in Delta Junction.
Open year round, this lodge was finished in 2009, after 10 years of construction. What you see now is a beautiful, 7,300 sq ft lodge with stunning views of the surrounding countryside and beautiful Alaskan luxury on the inside.
The original lodge, called the Black Rapids Roadhouse, is located 100 feet below the bluff, right on the road.
This lodge was built in 1904! It is one of the only original roadhouses in Alaska still standing. The owners of the Lodge at Black Rapids are currently renovating this lodge, and intend to make it a museum open to visitors interested in the history of this area, and also open an outdoor adventure educational program for youth in Alaska.
Winter or summer, there are so many ways to enjoy yourself at this lodge.
The large deck has sweeping views of the surrounding Alaska Range and glaciers nearby. Many of the guests choose to enjoy a glass of wine or a beer out on the deck before dinner, especially in the gorgeous summer season.
There are many different room options available at the lodge.
They have everything from gorgeous king sized bedrooms with private bathrooms and french doors, to an affordable hostel style room with shared bathroom and individual beds available for booking.
The lodge has many different areas for lounging or relaxing.
Along with a beautiful area with leather couches and french doors for unwinding, they also offer access to a gorgeous little library up their spiral staircase.
They have a year-round, full service restaurant available at the lodge!
The food is delicious and prepared with primarily Alaskan ingredients when available. If you're interested in just dinner and are passing through, they will require a phone call ahead of time as well! It's a small restaurant and they prepare ahead of time for their diners.
There are so many options of things to do, even in the winter!
There are dog kennels within 20 miles of the lodge. The staff at the Lodge at Black Rapids are happy to arrange a dog sledding tour for you, so you can feel what it was truly like during the gold rush days!
They also offer flight seeing tours, which in the winter can be absolutely fantastic.
The cold weather can suck the humidity out of the air and offer spectacular views not normally seen the rest of the year. You can also take a flight to go walk on a glacier, or even go backcountry skiing!
The aurora borealis comes out to play often in latitudes this far north.
You can easily see the aurora borealis from your bed! With the giant windows or french doors in your rooms, the sky can alight for you while you're relaxing under your covers!
You can drive yourself to this slice of Alaskan heaven at 227 Richardson Hwy., Delta Junction, Alaska.
Reservations are definitely recommended, especially during the busy season. They offer many winter and summer packages, but these also require advanced reservations. You can contact them at (877) 825-9413.
