The One Walk Above The Trees In Alaska That’s Beautiful Any Time Of Year

The Butte Trail in Alaska offers a stunning, easy hike with panoramic views, suitable for all seasons.

If you’re looking for a great hike that’s gorgeous to do all year long, then you need to head straight to the Butte Trail in Alaska. This easy going hike gives great rewards when you get above the tree line. With stunning views of Pioneer Peak and the valley below, it’s a hike that you’ll want to complete every season of the year.

Itching to get out and stretch your legs?

Bodenburg Butte is one gorgeous hike, no matter the season. Up above the tree line you can see panoramic views of the valley beneath you.

The hike is located in Palmer, in the Matanuska Susitna Valley.

It’s a beautiful hike that starts at the parking lot on the west side. There’s usually plenty of parking available unless it’s a beautiful, sunny Saturday in the summer.

The trail is a relatively easy, 1.5-mile, out-and-back trail.

It’s very well maintained and very wide in the beginning. The trail narrows as you ascend higher.

The entire elevation gain is only 874 feet.

But it’s just high enough to get jaw dropping views of the landscape beneath you. Try to head up on a clear day, because fog can sock you in if the weather is rainy.

The trail can get slick, so pack accordingly.

Pack a good pair of ice cleats and be prepared for packed down snow and icy conditions. A sturdy hiking pole may help too, but you should be okay.

There’s some stairs right by the summit.

Once you’re up, look southeast to see if you can see the Knik Glacier. You’ll see the bright blue of its glacial ice if the day is a little overcast or cloudy; in fact, you can see it better on darker days than on bright sunny days!

This hike needs to make your bucket list this year.

Whether you hit it in the winter, spring, summer, or fall, there’s something to enjoy -- along with sweeping views that will take your breath away!
