If you’re looking for a true winter wonderland adventure, it doesn’t get any better than Borealis Basecamp, located north of Fairbanks, Alaska. Cozying up in your own igloo and watching the aurora borealis through your 16 foot panoramic windows is truly an awe-inspiring experience, and one that should make every winter lover’s bucket list!
Borealis Basecamp is a lodging destination of modern geodesic igloos.
The igloos are located in the middle of a beautiful 100-acre parcel in a boreal forest, with incredible views in every direction. Only 25 miles north of Fairbanks, it's a quick drive from the city, even though you're in the wilderness of Alaska.
Each igloo is built to maximize your arctic views, whether it's the landscape or beautiful, starry sky.
The bed is perfectly positioned to lounge and snuggle up in while watching the aurora borealis dance across the night sky. You will find your bed to be comfortable and designed for optimal relaxation with luxury linens.
The entire interior of the igloo is designed with beautiful, minimal furnishing.
Each igloo has a full-sized bathroom, including a toilet, shower, and sink. Even though the entire resort is run off-grid, you will still have all the resources you need for a perfect vacation.
There are a couple of kitchen amenities for you to take advantage of at the breakfast bar in your igloo.
Enjoy beautiful wooden countertops, and a sink and small luxuries like cocoa, hot coffee, or relaxing tea. The view is just as beautiful from here as from the bed!
They offer dining options in the large yurt, and a complimentary breakfast served every morning.
Lunch is a huge bowl of hot soup, served in a hearty bread bowl and paired with a delicious Caesar salad. There are four different soup options: vegetable, reindeer sausage, chicken noodle, or French onion. Lunch is served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is $25 per person.
If you plan on visiting this awesome place this winter, make sure to book as soon in advance as possible.
The igloos are reserved very quickly each season, and you may be hard-pressed to find specific dates available. It's truly a once in a lifetime experience, and shouldn't be missed!
Dinner is an equally impressive spread, with options like King Crab, baby-back ribs, portobello mushrooms, or pasta.
Wherever possible they source local ingredients for your fabulous meal. You will fill up on incredible Alaska cuisine prepared by award-winning Chef George Easter, before heading back to your bedroom to watch the stunning northern lights!
