It’s no secret that hiking is one of Alabama’s most popular outdoor recreational activities. There are numerous trails located throughout the state that are great for hiking year-round, especially during the winter months. Sure, Alabama might not receive a lot of snow during the winter season, but it’s still a great time of year to explore some of the Yellowhammer State’s best trails, including the seven listed below.
1. Walls of Jericho Trail - Estillfork
Walls of Jericho Alabama Trailhead, Parking lot, Estillfork, AL 35745, USA
Alabama's Walls of Jericho Trail, which is located near the tiny town of Estillfork, has a distance of 6.4 miles out and back. Even though it's one of the Yellowhammer State's most difficult trails to hike, the waterfall at the end makes the journey well worth it.

2. Doug Ghee Accessible Trail (Bald Rock Boardwalk) - Delta
One of Alabama's best and easiest trails to hike is the Doug Ghee Accessible Trail, a.k.a. Bald Rock Boardwalk. This 0.6-mile, out-and-back trail is located within Cheaha State Park and offers one of Alabama's most breathtaking views, especially during the winter months.

3. John B. Scott Forever Wild Trail - Kent
John B. Scott Forever Wild Trail - Trailhead, Gold Mine Rd, Dadeville, AL 36853, USA
Alabama's John B. Scott Forever Wild Trail, which has a moderate difficult rating, is a 4.4-mile loop trail that's located near the tiny town of Kent, Alabama. This scenic trail follows the Tallapoosa River through a beautifully wooded landscape.

North Alabama's Borden Creek Hiking Trail, which is located within the Sipsey Wilderness near Haleyville, is a 4.9-mile, out-and-back trail with a moderate difficulty rating. It offers a variety of recreational activities and is perfect for hiking year-round, especially during the winter season.

5. Walker Bynum Smith Mountain Tower Trail - Dadeville
Smith Mountain Fire Tower, Jacksons' Gap, AL 36861, USA
The Walker Bynum Smith Mountain Tower Trail, which is located near Dadeville, Alabama, is a 0.7-mile loop trail that ends at a fire tower that overlooks beautiful Lake Martin. It offers an easy difficulty rating and is a wonderful trail to hike with the entire family on a winter day.

It has a distance of 2.8 miles out and back, and it's also easy enough for all skill levels.
