When I think of "retro," roller rinks, bowling alleys, arcades and soda fountains are just a few of the many great places that come to mind. There are several "retro" places located in Alabama that provide a great time for the entire family. Let's take a look at 10 of these awesome places.
1. Tasty Dip
Tasty Dip has been a local favorite in Heflin since the 1940s and is the city's oldest drive-in hamburger stand. In addition to their delicious hamburgers, they also offer amazing milkshakes, banana splits and so much more. Tasty Dip is located at 1278 Ross St, Heflin, AL 36264.
2. Fun Zone Skate Center
Fun Zone Skate Center is Dothan's premiere family entertainment center, offering a fun time for kids in a safe and secure environment. Fun Zone Skate Center offers laser tag, video games, bumper cars and so much more. Fun Zone Skate Center is located at 465 Westgate Pkwy, Dothan, AL 36303.
3. Alabama Theatre
The Alabama Theatre, located in downtown Birmingham on 1817 3rd Ave North, has been the home of many shows and performances, including concerts, movies, beauty pageants and silent films. The Alabama Theatre was built in 1927 and is an important part of Alabama's history.
4. Skate Odyssey
Skate Odyssey is Huntsville's premiere skate center and offers great fun for all ages. Family Skate Night is every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon, 4:30pm-9:00pm. Skate Odyssey is located at 11319 Memorial Pkwy SW, Huntsville, AL 35803.
5. Stacey's Olde Tyme Soda Fountain
From the jukebox to the cokes that only cost 25 cents, Stacey's Olde Tyme Soda Fountain takes customers back in time. Stacey's Olde Tyme Soda Fountain, which is best known for its key lime milkshake, is located inside Stacey's Rexall Drugs at 121 W Laurel Ave, Foley, AL 36535.
6. King Drive-In
King Drive-In opened in 1949 and is Alabama's oldest continually operating drive-in theater. This drive-in theater is a popular gathering place for families on summer weekend nights. King Drive-In is located at 18480 Hwy 43, Russellville, AL 35654.
7. The Gulf Bowl
Family owned and operated since 1959, The Gulf Bowl features 24 Brunswick lanes and delivers a wonderful bowling experience. It also features a 2,500 sq ft arcade and full-service seafood restaurant. The Gulf Bowl is located at 2881 South Juniper St, Foley, AL 36535.
8. Game Galaxy
Game Galaxy is a neat arcade, offering both classic and modern video games. It's also a great place to find deals on games. Game Galaxy is currently located in Huntsville, inside Madison Square Mall. They'll be relocating at the end of 2015, so stay tuned.
9. Golden Years Ice Cream Parlor
The moment you step through the doors of Golden Years Ice Cream Parlor, you'll feel like you've stepped back in time. This nostalgic ice cream parlor is decorated in 50's and 60's decor, and it offers the BEST ice cream at the BEST prices. 10. Leland Lanes
Leland Lanes features 32 state-of-the-art lanes with automatic scoring. It also features cosmic bowling and bumper bowling. Leland Lanes is located at 1125 26th Ave E, Tuscaloosa, AL 35404.
