Alabama is known for its friendly towns and Southern hospitality, but now we have real proof of Alabamians’ big hearts. Alabama ranked third of all the states when it came to charitable donations, according to Philanthropy.com. The data given was from 2012 tax documents and broken down by metropolitan statistical areas. It says that Alabamians gave 4.87% of their adjusted gross incomes to charity, which translates to $3,039,256,000 total contributions. The whole state must be pretty generous, but aren’t you curious which cities in Alabama gave the most?

The following were the top 10 most generous metropolitan areas in Alabama:

These cities had a giving ratio of 4.61%, or $87,942,000. Great job, everyone!
