If you've been looking for a perfect spot for watching football, I discovered a sure bet at The Game, a new sports bar in Decatur, Alabama. While its name seems to make that connection obvious, I can't wait to tell you about a few of the special features that set it apart as the ultimate place for game day, specifically for those of us who take an emotional rollercoaster with every play.

If you're a fan of either Alabama or Auburn football, don't lie and say you've not felt that this year!

Ever witnessed a bad call or missed catch that made you so mad you wanted to throw something? At The Game, a gallery of axe-throwing stalls awaits your focused displeasure. Or you could take it down a notch with a spirited game of pinball, Golden Tee, or Mario Brothers.

Of course, you do not have to be angry or even angsty to do any of those activities, but I could just imagine how useful they'd be in those instances as I sat enjoying lunch with my cousin and fellow Auburn fan, watching an early October game go from bad to worse.

Meanwhile, we had some incredible comfort food taking the edge off, so no axes or ninja stars were thrown. The Game has a streamlined menu with about 18 primary items, including crispy bowls of fries done three ways (truffle parm, chimichurri/queso/diced steak, chicken/bacon/ranch); mac and cheese bowls done four ways (brisket, buffalo chicken, truffle mac and steak, four cheese); chicken tenders, steak or Caesar salad; sliders in three varieties (truffle mac burgers, bacon cheeseburgers, brisket burnt ends); and classic chicken tenders. Just reading it sticks to your ribs, doesn't it?

Sometimes, Chef Josh Moore will whip up an off-menu special, like his hearty gumbo.

We went for the brisket and buffalo chicken mac bowls, with a starter of truffle parmesan fries. This food tastes richer than Elon and yet it's easy on the wallet, with entrees ranging from $9 to $17. While I was fortunate to be treated that day, I'll be back on my own soon. Plus, each of the bowls we ordered easily made two meals, possibly three if you like rich foods in small servings. We also have some great trails around Decatur to walk off some of these calories.

The Game is located in the heart of downtown Decatur in an upstairs space overlooking Second Avenue. The restaurant typically opens at 4 p.m. daily during the week except for Tuesday, when it is closed. On Saturdays and Sundays, it opens much earlier at 11 a.m. to accommodate game day patrons like us. You can watch all of the football action across over a dozen large screens and never miss a play.

The bar has an extensive drink menu of everything from craft beer to cocktails when you're ready to toast to a big win (Please, no drowning sorrows ... Remember there's always next week ... or season).
