These 3 Deadly Prisons Can Only Be Found In Kansas

Because of constant cuts to state funding, staffing is always on the low side here in the Kansas Department of Corrections, but that doesn’t mean officers aren’t working for everyone’s safety at all times. However, people are unpredictable, accidents happen, and sometimes the ones who live here are what officers worry about. These three prisons are some of the most deadly in the state.

Hutchinson Correctional Facility was established in 1895. Inmates here might not be on death row, but they're just as dangerous. They're only held in check by the dedicated officers that work here. They often get put on "lock down" to keep them in line anytime something significant happens. In 2015, three officers were assaulted, resulting in injuries for each of them.

Lansing's facility was established in 1868. Some offenders here are rumored to jam their locks on their doors to get out and roam freely. The facility is frequently under ideal staffing numbers, but safety is never compromised. In July of 2015, there were four separate, unrelated attacks on staff of the prison resulting in only minor injuries. That doesn't mean it couldn't have been worse, though. That only means the officers responded before it got any worse.

El Dorado is the newer facility, established in 1991. It houses bigger cases like the Carr brothers and Dennis Rader. This is where most of the 'death row' offenders are kept in Kansas. This prison houses some of the state's worst, and i'm not just saying serial killers. The ones with mental illnesses that are too hard to take care of elsewhere are kept here for the officers to monitor and contain.

Kansas prisons have the same issues as any other facilities. They find cellphones, drugs, and other contraband a lot more than they probably should.
