The facility had its own farm and allowed patients to care for the animals and gardens. They also enjoyed beautiful accommodations with lots of natural light and amenities like a library, billiards room and tennis courts.

As the number of patients increased, the additional wings were added to the original building. At one point, the hospital was 141,478 square feet. Funding issues and overcrowding led to a decreased level of care. Eventually, the additions were demolished, along with the farm. The buildings that were left began to decay.
