Just head to the little port town of Thomaston, a place where you can take in the wonders of Langlais Sculpture Preserve then relax with a delicious meal at the nearby Block Saloon. This outdoor adventure will take you into Maine’s coastal beauty. Thomaston, pop. 2,700, was the longtime home of the Maine State Prison. The incarceration era has ended and today the town is a popular tourist destination. It has antique stores and shops as well as some gorgeous outdoor art.

The Langlais Sculpture Preserve is located just three miles south of the heart of Thomaston. The 90-acre property was the home of renowned Maine artist, Bernard Langlais.

Langlais produced thousands of pieces and you can see some of them on a quarter-mile path that winds through the property. The whimsical wooden sculptures offer a nice introduction to the work produced by Langlais during his productive career as a fine artist.

After enjoying the visual feast of the preserve, head to The Block Saloon to enjoy the art of good food and drinks. The upscale neighborhood saloon features small plates and craft cocktails.
