Where can I find the best swimming hole in South Dakota?

Hippie Hole in South Dakota might be one of the best swimming holes in South Dakota, but it’s not the only one. No matter where you live in South Dakota, you’re sure to be within easy driving distance of a crystal clear swimming hole, both natural and manmade – like Angostura Reservoir in Hot Springs. With nearly 40 miles of shoreline, the reservoir hosts several sandy beaches and plenty of opportunities for peace and quiet. You won’t find as much space at Sylvan Lake in Custer, but the cozy beach is perfect for a summer day. Locals even jump off of nearby rocks into the cool water. If you prefer manmade to natural swimming holes, head over to one of the epic waterparks in South Dakota. Wild West Water Park in Sioux Falls is a fun, family-friendly summertime destination. The park features several swimming pools, a swim-up bar, and a ton of water attractions, from water slides to a lazy river. If you’re near Spearfish, head over to Spearfish Aquatic Center. The two-acre water park boasts a TON of fun and water attractions, including a 400-gallon dump bucket, waterslides, and a lazy river.

What is there to do in Black Hills National Forest?

One of the most beloved natural attractions in South Dakota, Black Hills National Forest is a must-visit, especially if you’re just passing through out beautiful state. One of the best ways to explore this popular South Dakota destination is on one of its many hiking trails. One of the best hikes in South Dakota, for example, will take you around Horsethief Lake in Keystone. The trek tallies nearly 2.5 miles and takes you along a gorgeous boardwalk. If you’re up for a really epic adventure, plan your journey along the 100+ mile George S. Mickelson Trail. It goes from Deadwood to Edgemont and is fun for both hikers and bikers.
