We consider ourselves extremely lucky to live in a state where fantastic hiking trails are abundant. There seems to be an endless selection of trails to choose from here in Nevada, each of which has something unique to offer. However, our favorite trails are always the ones that leave you with an outstanding view at the end! That’s exactly what you’ll experience when you set off on the Cathedral Rock hike in Kyle Canyon. This moderate hike winds through towering pines and underneath limestone cliffs before bringing you to the ultimate view of the canyon below, so be sure to add it to your adventure bucket list and tackle it for yourself soon.
Feel like getting out of dodge for a bit? A visit to southern Nevada's Spring Mountains is bound to do the trick. This stunning landscape is vast, stunning, and perfectly remote. Plus, the trail to Cathedral Rock is the prefect way to explore it!
Located just outside of Mt. Charleston Village, Cathedral Rock is a towering, 300-foot-tall cliff that looms over the valley below. It looks pretty intimidating from below, but a short 2.7-mile trail will take you right to the top.
Driving past the Spring Mountains Visitor Center will lead you directly to the Cathedral Rock trailhead. From here, the trail leads hikers through gorgeous groves of ponderosa pines and spruce trees as it begins the climb uphill.
Be aware that although this hike is relatively short, it is quite steep with an elevation gain of 954-feet throughout the entire trail. However, the views are worth every single step. Continue on the trail as it leads you through a series of short switchbacks between the massive Cathedral Rocks and Echo Cliffs, a set of breathtaking limestone cliffs.
The trail will continue meandering through forests and clearings, with plenty of places to stop and rest along the way. There are even a couple of seasonal waterfalls worth making a brief side trip along the way.
It isn't long before the trail takes you right up against the backside of Cathedral Rock. From here, you'll complete some steep switchbacks all the way to the top. This last section can be tough, but you'll be so glad you completed it once you make it to the top and see that incredible view.
The top of the formation opens up to a wide ledge which is perfect for standing and enjoying the inspiring scene before you. Below is the Mt. Charleston Lodge and its cabins, and in the distance, you can spot the peak of Mt. Charleston, Mummy Mountain, and Harris Peak. We told you it was worth it!
