This New Hampshire Eatery Was The Inspiration For One Of Your Favorite Childrens' Tales

There are plenty of places to eat out in New Hampshire, but not all of them have as much history as this little spot. Not only will you find it in one of the oldest homes in the state, but it was also the inspiration for the illustrations found in a book you probably read throughout your childhood.

The adorable red cottage that now houses Pickety Place is located in Concord and it has been around since 1786.

It's surrounded by impressively ornate herb gardens that provide the true heart of every meal here.

The three lunch seatings take place at 11:30 a.m., 12:45 p.m. and 2 p.m. They're all herb based and come with a variety of edible flowers.

With 5 courses you won't leave hungry, but at at the same time the meals here feel refreshing and light.

Every month Picket Place creates an entirely new menu.

So, you could come visit many times without having the same experience twice.

And, we love that the set menu means we don't need to do any work. Just make a reservation, show up and the meal begins.

And the dining rooms are just as lovely as the outside of the cottage.

While we love the experience of the intricate lunch, we can't help but smile at the history of this beautiful little cottage.

Illustrator Elizabeth Orton Jones chose the home as the inspiration for the illustrations found in Little Red Riding Hood, published by Little Golden Books 1948.

Pickety Place is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., April through December. They close at 4 p.m. from January through March. There are three lunch seatings.
