Sharp's Old Country Store In Slatyfork, West Virginia Is Just Begging To Be Explored

The Mountain State is overflowing with historic old places that are just begging to be explored and the old timey country store located on Route 219 just a few miles west of Snowshoe Resort is definitely worthy of being added to the must-see list of places found along rural roads in the state.

Sharp's Country Store was built in 1926 alongside a new road built by the state. That road was Route 219.

Five generations of the same Sharp family have owned and operated the old country store which, at one point, sold gasoline. Today, there are old gas pumps out front and an Esso sign to mark that era in this store's lifetime.

Today, it still operates as a store, offering cold beverages, snacks, and small items to tourists and passersby. But it's also a museum whose items have been self-procured from its stash of things offered for sale over nearly a hundred years. And while those items on the *inside* are very interesting, we find the *outside* to be every bit as captivating...

The family has barn, which is a faded red and has a dummy made to look like a real person hanging out the window from the loft (fashioned like a person falling). It's a real head turner the first time you drive by the place. As if that wasn't enough to catch your eye...

There's a shed that may actually hurt your eyes if you try to focus too long. It's someone's sense of art and humor blended together to ignite a few smiles. It does.

And then... there's the covered bridge. It's pretty famous in there parts...

Because it's known as "Sharp's Kissing Bridge." And just like what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas... the kissing bridge doesn't talk. So, kiss all ya want.

Curious about this roadside country store? You’ll find it just up the road a piece from the Post Office. The address is 35087 Seneca Trail, Slaty Fork, WV 26291 (It’s also known as Rt. 219). According to the website, the store is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and closed on Sunday and Monday.
