Browsing antique stores and flea markets is now almost as popular as heading to the mall to shop – in fact, it may be even more popular. These secondhand shopping destinations take old items and give them new life, and since this is an increasing trend in home decor, it’s no wonder people flock to these stores and events. If this type of treasure hunting is up your alley, then you absolutely cannot miss the Burlington Antique Show. This massive outdoor antique and flea market takes place one Sunday each month from April through October and you could easily spend all day wandering around this enormous show just across the river from Cincinnati.
The Burlington Antique show is an ultimate destination for antique lovers, and it's just a short drive from Cincinnati. It takes place on the third Sunday of each month from April through October and is held at the Boone County Fairgrounds in Burlington, Kentucky.
The next show is coming up this Sunday, September 16, 2018, and there will be one more this year on October 21. The show is held rain or shine and is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. If you're feeling extra motivated, early bird shoppers can get in at 6 a.m. The early tickets are $6/person over the age of 12 and $4/person after 8 a.m. Parking is free.
If you've never been to a large antique show before, prepare to be amazed. This particular show is definitely one of the largest in our entire region. There are rows and rows of all sorts of antiques and flea market finds, and it's perfectly set up for a day of browsing and shopping.
Most of the vendors set up out in the open air, but there are a few sections that are covered. They all show up rain or shine, but of course, the crowds are a bit heavier on a beautiful day. You can definitely run into a line of cars when entering the fairgrounds, but be patient - the wait is worth it.
Whether you're looking for something specific or just enjoy letting things catch your eye, you'll be pleased and overwhelmed by the selection. Furniture is a popular item and can be found in many booths. These antique beauties are filled with stories and are just waiting to be refurbished.
There are collectibles, hard-to-find items, and yes, some things that don't necessarily qualify as antiques. But there is such a good mixture that it makes it fun to look it all over.
When you visit, be sure to bring cash, as that's still the best way to purchase items. Some vendors do accept credit cards and checks, but cash is preferred. As you're perusing the china, dishes, decor, and old records, make sure to take a break and pick up some food and drinks from one of the on-site food trucks.
