This gorgeous little town sits right in the heart of Eastern Tennessee, a beautiful gem of a town that boasts a water tower and all sorts of southern, small town charm. Still, the city holds a horrifying bit of history that you can visit for yourself – it’s a heartache for the country music community, and a rough patch in southern history. Can you guess the age old accident that happened deep in the woods?
The small town of Camden boasts its own water tower, and a gorgeous location deep in the heart of Tennessee. At roughly ninety miles from Nashville, this tiny town lies smack in-between Music City and the college town of Jackson, Tennessee. Less than 4000 folks call this town home, but it holds a solid foothold in country music history.
You see, Camden is where a plane carrying Patsy Cline, Hawkshaw Hawkins, Cowboy Copas and Randy Hughes crashed on stormy March night in 1963. Headed for the Cornelia Fort Airport in Nashville, the place was cast from the sky just after a fuel stop in Dyersburg.

They had been playing benefit shows in Kansas City, Kansas and Cline was desperate to get home to her family. Which, many believe, is why the group took to the sky instead of sticking to the road during the rough swell of the storm.

The plane left Dyersburg at 6:07 pm, and when the wreck was recovered, Cline's watch had stopped at 6:20. Everyone on board the tiny aircraft only lived thirteen minutes once they went airborne. The eerie part about this whole story is that you can drive a few miles into the forest in Camden and pay homage to the lost lives at this quiet memorial.
Keep in mind - this site is very remote, and is known to spook more than a few if you're coming out alone. The crash site is marked by a boulder that was placed in the mid-1990s, and is located at the best possible approximation of where the plane went down.
March 5th, 1963 - lives were lost here in these woods. Cut short at the height of their careers, each passenger breathed their last in Camden. Would you ever visit?
