Connecticut is loaded with many popular cities and towns. New Haven is famous for its pizza, Greenwich is popular for its shopping district and there are many waterfront towns that get plenty of visits from tourists. But with 169 towns, there are bound to be some that you have missed. Here are a few that we think are underrated destinations in Connecticut.
Saville Dam is one picture perfect attraction and a great place for a picnic in Barkhamsted. But don't forget to take in a different kind of view while you are here. The town also has one of the three remaining drive-in movie theatres left in Connecticut.
If you are searching for an overlooked fishing spot, then Chaplin is the place to go. Located in the center of the state, this town is home to the Natchaug River which is one of the most heavily stocked, but least fished, places in the state.

Deep River is located in the southern part of the Nutmeg state along the Connecticut River. It is a small town packed with small businesses that boast some of the most creative artisians around. Small specialty shops make a great destination for picking out unique gifts. Don't forget to grab a bite to eat at the Whistle Stop Cafe.

This town boarders New York state at the very northwest corner of Connecticut. It is a quaint town with a charming covered bridge. One of the best things to do while you are visiting is to take a few hours to explore the Sharon Audubon Center. View birds, bees and a beautiful garden with plenty of walking trails.
Pomfret can be found in the northeast corner of Connecticut. It is a beautiful rural town that has lovely scenic roads. It is also home to Sharpe Hill Vineyards which is part of the Connecticut Wine Trail. You will enjoy exploring this 40 square mile picturesque town.

Located in the northern part of the state, Union is the least populated town in Connecticut. One-third of the town is actually state park land — making Union a place of unspoiled natural beauty. Hiking, fishing and kayaking are just a few of the best activities to do in this slice of paradise.
Andover is a very rural town located to the east of our state's capitol, Hartford. As you pass through the town, you will notice stone walls, farmland and historic homes. The town also has several small streams and rivers flowing through it which brings a serenity to the landscape.
Cornwall has a reputation for hiding some of the best artists and writers that have left New York City for a quieter setting. It is in the northwest corner of Connecticut and there is a quaint country feel to this town. It boasts a fabulous farmer's market and is home to one of the best ski areas that Connecticut has to offer.

Under 20 square miles total, Bozrah is located on the eastern end of the state. The town is home to one of only a few Alpaca farms in Connecticut. Even though Bozrah is small in size, it has several state parks that are all worth visiting.
North Canaan can be found where Route 7 and Route 44 meet in the northwest corner of the state. It is a small town that has a little bit of everything from history to quaint shops. You might want to catch a show at the Canaan Colonial Theatre with its old fashioned marquee.
