This West Virginia City Was Just Named “America’s Best Community”

Huntington, West Virginia, won the America's Best Communities contest due to its successful revitalization efforts.

It's no surprise that America's best community would be found right here in West Virginia! The city of Huntington competed against other cities around the country in a contest called America’s Best Communities.

Huntington is a busy city on the Ohio River with a population just under 50,000.

It's the proud home of Marshall University, bringing education, culture, and sporting events to the area.

Huntington has been working especially hard in the last several years to redevelop and revitalize the city.

New shopping districts, homes, and restaurants have been springing up in areas that had once been crumbling.

The efforts paid off when Huntington received an award for being America's Best Community.

The competition was sponsored by Frontier, The Weather Channel, DISH Network, and CoBank.

Huntington will receive 3 million dollars to continue their revitalization efforts.

We're proud to have Huntington as part of the great state of West Virginia!

You can read more about the contest in the Herald-Dispach's article, or see the America's Best Communities Facebook Page.

For another great city in West Virginia that's been developing and renovating, check out the city of Princeton. It's been named the "Best Up-And-Coming Town" in West Virginia.
