Right Now Is The Perfect Time To Catch A Movie At New Mexico’s Only Drive-In Theater

Tired of spending your evenings watching Netflix and chilling on the couch? While movie theaters around the state are still temporarily closed because of the pandemic, there is one spot where you can leave the house and safely catch a flick with friends: the Fort Union Drive-In Movie Theater.

New Mexico's last surviving drive-in theater reopened earlier this month and it couldn't have happened at a better time.

It's a modest spot that feels like a blast from the past. Simply drive up and park, tune the radio to the theater's station, and enjoy some snacks from home all while staying in the comfort of your vehicle.

While you can bring your own drinks and snacks, the theater also has a concession stand where they sell popcorn, drinks, and pizza.

Just keep your boozy drinks at home! Alcohol is not allowed on the premises.

Due to state restrictions still in place, Fort Union Drive-In does have a few changes this year to their usual operations.

Carloads are limited to five people per vehicle and patrons are required to stay in the vehicle unless heading to the bathroom or concession stand. If you plan to order snacks from the stand, call in your order and then pick up once it's ready. Otherwise, it's the same ol' drive-in experience.

Fort Union Drive-In is located on 7th Street and Prospero Drive in Las Vegas, New Mexico.

Admission is $20 per carload, with a current restriction of five people per car. Gates open at 7 p.m. Friday through Sunday and movies begin at dusk. Details about movie showings, concessions, and more can be found on the theater's Facebook page.
