One of the most stressed cities in America is right here in Massachusetts.

Though you might think the most wound-up city in the state would be the capital, Boston, that’s actually not the case.

According to a new study by WalletHub, Worcester is actually the most stressed place in Massachusetts and one of the most stressed in the country.

Worcester was ranked as the 37th most stressed city out of the 182 America cities surveyed.

What about Boston? The state’s major metropolis came in at 52.

The researchers looked at factors like average weekly work hours, unemployment rate, food insecurity, divorce rate, strength of social ties, and the share of adults in fair or poor health.

The researchers also considered the number of adults diagnosed with depression, the share of single parent household, and the share of households behind on bills in the past 12 months.

The study found that money was the leading cause of stress in Worcester, follows by work, family, and relationships.

Even with these new findings, Worcester remains a truly beautiful city with plenty of fun activities and attractions.
