Highlights 13 things that residents of Hawaii appreciate in their daily lives.
The Hawaiian Islands are absolute paradise, but sometimes it can be hard to see past all of the post-election and pre-holiday stress creeping into our lives. So, in order to regain clarity and ditch the stress, we've created a list of 13 undeniable things everyone who lives in Hawaii appreciates. From recognizing small things like the ability to shop at Costco to save money to letting our beautiful ohanas know how much we love them, it's important to take time out of our busy, stressful lives to appreciate the little things.
1. Kama’aina discounts.
The cost of living in Hawaii is astronomical, and many would certainly falter without those amazing kama'aina discounts.
2. Shopping in bulk.
Who cares if our fridges look as though we're preparing for the zombie apocalypse - do you know how much we saved?
3. Being surrounded by beaches.
We will never get sick of being surrounded by the great Pacific, even when we're stuck at work.
4. Having geckos for roommates.
They eat all of the bugs, and let's be honest, are pretty adorable.
5. Not always having to pay for fresh produce.
We are so lucky to have produce that grows in our own backyards - or our co-worker, who loves bringing fresh lychee into work.
6. Constant tropical weather.
While it can be difficult at times to not experience drastic changes in weather, at least we don't have to deal with snow.
7. Not needing a gym membership.
Beach yoga sessions and hiking trips are the only gym we'll ever need.
8. The Aloha spirit.
There is truly nothing better than the Aloha Spirit.
9. Spam.
Because Spam is actually quite delicious, versatile, and perfect to keep on hand in case of a hurricane.
10. The relaxed lifestyle.
Life is better when lived slowly.
11. Amazon Prime.
Shipping to the islands is expensive, and while Amazon Prime usually takes about a week instead of the advertised two days, the membership fees pay for themselves in no time at all.
12. Needing only slippahs.
Because no one really enjoys having to wear heels, and if they say they do, they are probably lying.
13. Having countless cousins, aunties, and uncles.
Because we all know that family is the most important thing in the world, and we would never want to live somewhere that didn't value ohana.
