West Virginia can keep secrets well. So, you might not have heard about these “hidden treasures” that are in our state. But just because you didn’t know about them doesn’t mean they aren’t worth knowing about and visiting. Here are some really cool places in West Virginia where maybe you haven’t been before:
1. The Homer Laughlin China Company in Newell
Have you been to the place where West Virginia’s own Fiesta dinnerware is made? This pottery company and outlet store is located in Newell.
2. The American Mountain Theater in Elkins
If you’re looking for award-winning live music and comedy variety shows, check out this spot in Elkins. It’s perfect for guests of all ages and family-friendly.
3. The Philippi Covered Bridge
Built in 1852 by well known Appalachian bridge builder Lemuel Chenoweth, the Philippi Covered Bridge is the oldest and longest covered bridge in West Virginia and one of two left in Barbour County.
4. Harpers Ferry Zip Line Canopy Tours
Wanna see Harpers Ferry and the Potomac River from the tree tops? You can during this 2-3 hour guided thrill ride.
5. Carnegie Hall in Lewisburg
Did you know that West Virginia is home to one of only four Carnegie Halls that are still in continuous use in the world. Check it out for great live music, art and special events.

Take a step back into time at this store, which has been in continuous operation in Harrisville since 1908.

11. Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad in Elkins
This historic railroad offers beautiful views and fun rides. Every Christmas it also hosts POLAR EXPRESS-themed trips for kids of all ages.
12. Summersville Lake Lighthouse
Did you know that West Virginia has a lighthouse? It;s located on the lake at Mount Nebo. There’s a yearly festival in its honor.
13. West Virginia Independence Hall in Wheeling
Originally a courthouse built in 1859, this building become West Virginia’s capitol. Today it’s a museum.
